Autre Temps

Members of the São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra (OSMSP), Italian harpist Paola Baron and Brazilian violinist Edgar Leite, form the Duo Arcos, which releases its debut album AUTRE TEMPS, a result of the artistic partnership they have maintained for several years.

In it, the duo explores the richness of the Baroque repertoire and the lyricism of French Impressionism, presenting arrangements and transcriptions – done by Baron – of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Claude Debussy, and French composer Lili Boulanger, highlighted in pieces such as such as ‘Nocturne’ and ‘Cortège’.

Known for the emotional intensity of her exquisite harmonies and instrumentation, Boulanger historically distinguished herself by becoming the first woman to win the prestigious Prix de Rome at the age of 19, a pioneering achievement that paved the way for future generations of female composers. Also highlighted are Bach’s sonatas, BWV 1016 and BWV 1020, as well as emblematic works like Debussy’s ‘Clair de Lune’ – all reimagined in interpretations that not only capture the essence of the original works but add new textures, dynamic contrasts, and a surprising expressiveness in timbre.
