The Wings Suite, Op. 16

One of the last students of the wistful pianist Magdalena Tagliaferro, Fabio Caramuru – São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA) award-winning – releases THE WINGS SUITE, OP. 16, an album showcasing the orchestral expansion of works originally written for solo piano.

The project, a collaboration with the Amazonas Philharmonic orchestra and the Coral do Amazonas (Amazon Choir), under maestro Marcelo de Jesus’ baton, consists of an eight movement suite, inspired by the Brazilian fauna riches. Caramuru relied on the talent and partnership of Rodrigo Morte, for the orchestral arrangements, which added a new and exquisite array of sounds to the works.

Movements like Cicada, originally acclaimed in its piano solo version gathering more than a million streams, are a highlight in the suite; Bem-te-vi stands out with its singular rhythm, merging jazz elements. Yet Araras, in its syncopated and elegant themes, contemplates the rich Brazilian biodiversity. Harpia and Quero-quero continues the ode to nature, while Tangará and Uirapuru presents, respectively, a delicate texture slow waltz and an evocative sound journey through the depths of the Amazon Forest beauty. The suite culminates in Sabiá, Saudade do Brasil, a tribute to the famous poem “Canção do Exílio” by Gonçalves Dias, which weaves in definite, the singular sound tapestry of Fabio Caramuru’s work.
